As a result of continuing data entry problems with software used by the Québec government, COVID-19 statistics for the MRC d’Argenteuil were not available on Tuesday August 11 from the CISSS des Laurentides regional health authority. The CISSS des Laurentides serves seven MRC’s and the municipality of Mirabel.
As of August 10, there were no COVID-19 outbreaks at long-term care or other group living facilities in the MRC d’Argenteuil. A previous COVID-19 outbreak at the long-term care facility (CHSLD) attached to the hospital in Lachute was no longer in effect.
On August 11, the CISSS des Laurentides did report that there had been 4,068 confirmed 3,961 COVID-19 cases within its territory since the pandemic began. Out of those 4,068 confirmed cases, 476 remained active as of August 11 and 3,592 were resolved.
Due to the continued data entry difficulties, no new statistics on COVID-19 deaths in the MRC d’Argenteuil were available on August 11. However, there had been 240 deaths due to COVID-19 under CISSS des Laurentides jurisdiction since the pandemic began, which was an increase of seven deaths since August 4..
Québec COVID-19 statistics
As of August 11, there had been 60,718 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across Québec, which was an increase of 873 confirmed cases since August 4. According to the Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ), 53,135 cases of COVID-19 across Québec were resolved as of August 10, which means that 87.5 per cent of the 60,718 cases were resolved and that there were 7,583 active cases across Québec.
There were 151 COVID-19 patients in hospital across Québec as of August 11. Among those 169 patients, 21 were in intensive care.
Across Québec as of August 11, there had been 5,697 confirmed deaths due to COVID-19, which was an increase of 12 deaths during the past week.
Job losses due to pandemic
From March to June 2020, compared to the same period in 2019, Québec’s economy lost approximately 450,000 jobs due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a drop of about 10% in the total volume of employment, which stood at 4,327,500 in 2019 (average from March to June). The results were published on August 11 in the labor market and compensation bulletin of the Institut de la statistique du Québec, are taken from Statistics Canada’s Labor Force Survey.
The most affected industries are accommodation and food services, wholesale and retail trade, and manufacturing.
During the period mentioned, just over 365,000 jobs were lost in service industries. It is estimated that the accommodation and food services industry saw a drop of nearly 100,000 jobs, while in wholesale and retail trade, the loss of jobs was approximately 75,000. The manufacturing industry suffered a reduction of nearly 50,000 jobs.
From March to June 2020 compared to the same period the previous year, women have lost more jobs than men (238,100 jobs compared to 209,100 jobs).
Young people (15-24 years) were proportionally more affected than other age groups, with a drop of nearly 25% in their employment volume, or 132,300 jobs.
